Whiteness is not a phenotype. I don’t know if this is just a turn of phrase but it’s biological racism – I don’t mean that accusingly I just mean that literally, it’s suggesting race is a biological fact. And even if you’re not doing that, you’re still reifying and essentializing Whiteness. I feel like critical race theory / anti whiteness is a boring theory – it’s intellectually undemanding and simplistic in its view of reality yet gives the people who hold it a sweet feeling of moral superiority and of the evil of those who disagree. I also think it shows an obsession with Whiteness, with the evil White people do, with what White people think, with how White people should act, how White people should repent or be good allies. It emerges from the awful wound of American slavery and the effed up relations between white Americans and black Americans, but it is NOT a healthy way for other countries to think about race. America has about the most effed up race relations in the world, it always has, yet somehow they’re exporting those relations as a model to the rest of the world, especially the U.K.!
