England probably just as sexually uptight as Germany, so why didn’t fascism happen there as well? Why extremist movements arise in Germany Italy and Russia? All of them had weak institutions that made democracy and the rule of law easily overthrown, plus they had a historical inferiority complex which led to a public desire for national greatness and empire. I think cultural and institutional factors more at play in fascism than psychoanalytic - if we can’t even prove psychoanalysis for individuals how can we apply it to whole nations?
